Though it seems like years ago, I addressed that in the OP. If FedEx picked up the same job as the USPS and charged what the USPS charges, their labor costs would necessarily increase. In fact, given the mandate that only the USPS has the right to deliver "post", they would have to "package" everything, increasing their costs.

I don't agree, for what it's worth. If FedEx picked up the USPS's routes, it would standardize their costs significantly as it would introduce standard routes.
And such a mandate that only the USPS has the right is not a Constitutional mandate, but simply a legislative action that can be repealed at any time.
