I didn't say that private-sector industry could not build good planes. I'm simply noting that it's incapable of delivering improvements that are 1) functional in anything more serious than parked on the ground in battleship-row formation, and 2) not costing an arm and a leg to do what say, Russia does with much cheaper aircraft that work 100 times out of 100 instead of .0005 times out of 100 on a good day and 0 times out of 100 on an ordinary day and blowing up on a bad day.
