This is my number 1. The actual gunfight is anti-climatic but the music score is awesome

Other than polly-ticks, do you have a secret "thing", a guilty pleasure, a pastime, an obsession, a refuge, a groove, a comfort zone, an escape, a hobby, an alter ego?
Have we done this one before??

If no, my work is done here. No, not really but fan-farking-tastic, I hope we get some good ones.
If yes, how recently?

Do share your latest obsessions please.

I last watched Three-Body, the Chinese sci-fi. Impressive.

I also follow The Last of Us (looks promising) and Westworld (the last seasons are not as good as the first ones).

All that superhero / StarWars stuff? I'd give it a try only when I've got nothing else to do, but not anytime soon most likely.

Any recommendations?

Hey, let's try something different for Friday off-topic. Can you tell me which, in your opinion, is the most contenious topic in politics? The one that stirs the pot the most, and inevitably leads to a huge shitstorm whenever it's raised?

Is it the Covid measures? Or class warfare? Welfare? Abortion? Religion and atheism? The war on drugs? The war on terror? Gun control? Socialism vs libertarianism vs any other ism? Total surveillance? Climate change? Budget and taxes? Race issues? Gender issues? Health care? Israel and Palestine? What is?

Hey guys, here's a survey. Which is your fave comedy series of all time? I know, I know, you're gonna say Friends, Two And A Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Monk, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Cheers, South Park... But do surprise me!

As for me... I'd say Monthy Python, Fawlfty Towers, Allo Allo... I guess I'm a fan of weird British humour LOL =)

Well, there comes a time in every person's life, when they have to make a decision:

cat or dog?
tea or coffee?
beer or wine?

But srsly. Why not both? And even more srsly.

We've all been there. There are times we get so invested in a movie, or a series, and we empathise with some of the characters so much that they almost become like our family. And when one dies on screen, well... I have shed many a tear over such things!

So which character's demise you couldn't get over? Gimme examples! With pics if possible! =)

Neil Armstrong?
George Washington?
Napoleon?
Genghis Khan?

You get the idea...

Me, I'm torn between that Magellan guy and one of the guys who stepped on the Moon. Also faves are Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton and Robert Plant.

Or I could just be Adolf Hitler and instead of going into politics I would stick to painting. You?

I don't know about you, but, when my own country's restrictions are lifted and I'm allowed to go further than local, I'm feeling I'm going to travel extensively, see places/go places. I'm hungry for all that.

Now, if my country was to lift restrictions, that doesn't mean other countries will, so I'm thinking about all the places I may be allowed to go to within my own borders if the borders remain closed for the time being.

Anyway. Lockdown isn't going to last forever, but where to go? Where do you want to go first?

How do you imagine travel in a world with Covid overall?

...And don't let the door slam your behinds on your way back!

So, the old year is rolling away now. I hope the new one will be a lot better for you all! Of course this one has set the bar so low that, well... You know.

So let's make what could become a traditional poll.

Which, in your opinion, was the most significant event of the year, worldwide? Doesn't matter if good or bad, just most significant. I think the number one event is more than obvious, but still. Give me your top 3 events if you like. Or maybe top 10? Here's an example of such a list:
https://www.cfr.org/blog/ten-most-significant-world-events-2020

1. The COVID-19 Pandemic.
2. Joe Biden Wins the Presidency.
3. China Asserts Itself.
4. Climate Disruptions Continue.
5. The Killing of George Floyd.
6. Abraham Accords Signed.
7. Oil Prices Tank.
8. Tensions Flare Between Iran and the United States.
9. Belarusians Protest for Fair and Free Elections.
10. The U.S. Senate Acquits Donald Trump of Impeachment Charges.

Which is the quaintest, coziest, cutest place you've been to? A place that makes you feel warm inside, where you've caught yourself sighing with relief and purring with joy? A place as if taken from a post-card, or from the fairy tales of yore? Perhaps it is a place that you relate to a personal story that still makes you smile? Or one where you just feel at home like nowhere else. Come on, name such a place in the world! And maybe post a picture or two?

Mine... )

Alrighty! Here's a survey for ya folks. Which is your fave TV series of all time? Actually let's make this a Top-5. The genre doesn't matter. How old the series is doesn't matter, either. Just rank your top 5!

Mine:

1. Battlestar Galactica
2. Lost
3. Fringe
4. Game of Thrones
5. Friends

Today's off-topic post will come in the form of a survey. Now, from the distance of time, almost two decades later, the 9-11 attacks may seem like a bad dream. But it suffices to look around and be reminded of the changes this world has undergone because of that event, and realise it was indeed very real.

The only question in this survey is this. Can you recall where the news of the attacks first found you? What were you doing, and how did you learn of the terrible event? How did you react? What did you do for the rest of that day? Just share the human side of that memory. Because ultimately, when we peel off all the political stuff surrounding it, it is the humans that matter.

This is not solely directed to our US friends. In fact, anyone, both inside and outside the US could participate. See, you may think you have made up your mind about which presidential candidate you are going to vote for (or would have voted for, if you had the chance) - but are you sure they represent your political views the best way? Well, this 2020 Presidential Quiz may help you cast some light on that.

There's an extensive palette of questions in the quiz, and a chance to take the third option in each query, providing more detail about your stance; it also provides an opportunity to expand a certain subject by opting for an additional number of questions in said sub-section. Anyway, enjoy! And do share your results!

This week's offtopic thread features an easy query for y'all. Which is the most amazingly beautiful place you've ever been to? The one with the most stunning scenery? Doesn't matter if it's in your country or abroad. Do share a story! Oh, and a photo would be very appreciated of course!

Mine? The Okavango delta. But I'm biased about wildlife, so...

Hey folks! Here's something to take your mind off the daily horror newsreel that we're subjected to. An inquiry! With pics! Yay!

Today's survey, should you choose to take it, inquires about your personal garden. If you have any. Have you been growing some plants, somewhere? Flowers, herbs, fruits, vegetables, anything? In your backyard, on your balcony, somewhere in the wild, anywhere?

Got pics?

Which is the single dumbest question you've been able to come up with, and drive a maximum amount of people nuts? I mean a question so dumb it always, without failure, brings the desired effect?

I'm asking, cuz I've got a few folks around here that I need to get pissed off, and I'm kind of out of ideas. :-)

All the Greta Thunberg drama notwithstanding, what will it take for you to accept climate change as a problem? I mean, at what point will you believe we're in trouble with climate change?

1) I believe in science, so I know we're already in trouble.
2) Never. It's all bullshit.
3) If I lose my beach house to chronic high tides.
4) If certain produce that I like becomes unavailable or cost-prohibitive.
5) If the animal population decreases by 50%.
6) If deciduous trees die out.
7) When my local summertime temperature averages 10 degrees higher for five years running.
8) When my child contracts a disease we don't worry about now.
9) When fuel costs triple.
10) When Trump gets on board.

...And we're being swamped by those repetitive Christmas tunes. Helping us feel the Christmas spirit - or rather, get bored by it much sooner than the arrival of the actual holiday.

We've been seeing those Most Annoying Christmas Song Ever kind of rankings for ages too - in fact, they've been nearly as repetitive and redundant as the tunes they're ranking themselves. Here are a few in case you don't know what I mean:

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/most-hated-christmas-songs-ranked-20878955
https://www.theguardian.com/news/shortcuts/2019/nov/11/merry-xmas-everybody-20-most-annoying-christmas-songs

https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/music/a40717/worst-christmas-songs/

Anyway; I think you've guessed my next question at this point. Which is the most boring and annoying Christmas song for you, folks? I mean, the one that has literally made you want to gouge your ears out and stuck your ears with your socks? Options abound, I'm sure. So, unleash the Christmas snark that's been building inside you! :-)
