If it isn't a brief jaunt to New Zealand your intrepid venturer found himself with a few week's worth of conferences in Europe. As a result, gentle readers, you must excuse the delay in the recordings of The Shambling Mound, lord mayor of the most important village on Earth. It is not as if the pace of shambling has decreased at all - indeed it is fair to say that it has become every more shambolic, as the lurching and heaving becomes even more destructive and chaotic. A normal rate of transmissions will return in due course. Meanwhile, an attempt will be made to cover recent events.

The sixteenth week of the shambling was going to be impressive enough. It was significant enough that a government shutdown was avoided with the removal of border wall funding. The war against science continued as the chief of the Environment Protection Authority Scott Pruitt rejected advice to re-appoint nine scientists to the Board of Scientific Counselors, despite prior commitments.

But then something very curious and very shambling happened. Former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates testified before a Senate subcommittee saying that she had warned Lord Dampnut that his former national security adviser Michael Flynn had lied about his contact with Russia. The following day, FBI Director, James Comey, who was investigating ties between the administration and Russia, was abruptly fired. Coincidence? In a remarkable slip of the tongue Lord Dampnut himself stated explicitly that it was about the investigation of such ties.

Unsurprisingly the fallout of this sudden sacking dominated much of the following week as the administration and media struggled to find consistency to the story. To add fuel to the fire, it was revealed that Lord Dampnut revealed classified information to the Russian foreign minister on an Daesh plot and the following day it was reported that this information came from Israel.

As Lord Dampnut appointed Robert Mueller as Special Counsel to lead the investigation into Russian manipulation of the 2016 Election, a display of self-pity was apparently necessary. Poor Lord Dampnut, it seems that everyone was out to get him, and he stated as such at his commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy. "No politician in history, and I say with surety, has been treated worse, more unfairly.", he blubbered, immediately drawing comparisons with JFK.

Clearly affected by this domestic pressure of a media doing a normal job, Lord Dampnut ended the week with his first oveseas trip, starting with Saudi Arabia, who is negotiating a $110 billion arms deal with the United States. With a great sense of diplomacy, the person appointed to write Lord Dampnut's speech on Islam was also the the author of the notorious travel ban which targetted Muslim-majority countries. After all, Lord Dampnut's writing skills - as witnessed at a Holocaust memorial in Israel- leaves something to be desired.

But a nine-day overseas trip is insufficient to escape such domestic issues. Comey's memos are being dutifully suppressed. Lord Dampnut himself engaged in deliberate attempts to suppress evidence of Russian collusion, as one GOP strategist comes clean on such matters. This is the gift that keeps giving.

I just want to say that picture kills me. Those wings look like they're growing out of his head.

Either that, or he just has really ginormous ears!

I keep thinking of imagery from Thor, Hawkman...or somewhere horrific that has nothing to do with comics.

I'm kind of laughing on several levels about all this.

First, the party of Joe McCarthy appears to have some knowledge that its Il Douchebag has had some kind of shady ties with the Russians. This same party reflexively suddenly applies to Russia standards of acceptance it has never applied to Russia since the time of Abraham Lincoln, and this is so hilarious and yet so very badly wrong.

Second, the Democratic Party managed to lose an election to this fucking Cheeto.

Third, what precisely is the end-game of dealing with Russian collusion and potential treason, exactly? The Russian dictator doesn't care about sanctions, and there's obviously no military fear of a NATO where the USA is an unreliable factor to non-entity at best (for good reason).

If he doesn't care about the sanctions, why does he insist that they should be lifted? :-)

Walked right into that one, LOL.

I'll amend my statement to his being ruthless enough to take the ultimate sword of Damocles as an end run and make it stick.
